'Guadiana', the great river of southern Portugal, in the memories of the Guadiana cross boats carrying ore and fishing boats.

The most navigable of the Portuguese rivers is born in Spain, in Campo Montiel and drains in the south of Portugal in Vila Real de Santo António.
It is also in this river that we find the largest artificial lake in Europe, the Alqueva dam, an immense reservoir of fresh water built for irrigation purposes and water supply throughout the interior region.
